Pattern
pe + day + month = "on [date]." Example: pe 15 martie (on March 15th), pe 7 august (on August 7th).
Explanation
For a specific calendar date, Romanian uses the preposition pe, followed by the day number and the month name. Pe 25 decembrie (on December 25th). Pe 1 mai (on May 1st). Pe 12 octombrie (on October 12th). The day is a cardinal number (1, 2, 3…), and the month is lowercase.
This contrasts with în + month (in March, general) and în + season (in spring). When you name a specific day, switch to pe. În martie (in March, generally) vs. pe 15 martie (on March 15th).
For the first of the month, you may hear pe întâi mai (on May 1st) with the ordinal întâi — this is traditional, especially for May 1st (Labor Day, Ziua Muncii). For other days, stick with cardinals.
Examples

|---|---|
| Plec pe 22 decembrie. | I'm leaving on December 22nd. |
| Ne vedem pe 3 mai. | We'll see each other on May 3rd. |
| Ziua mea e pe 15 august. | My birthday is on August 15th. |

Common mistakes
- Using "în" for a specific date: În 15 martie is wrong; use pe 15 martie.
- Capitalizing months: Stay lowercase: pe 15 martie, not pe 15 Martie.
- Using ordinals: Pe al cincilea mai is unusual; just pe 5 mai.
